The Global Ethical Stocktake (GES) — an initiative jointly launched by President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva and UN Secretary-General António Guterres, and supported by the COP30 Presidency, Brazil’s Ministry of the Environment and Climate Change, and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs — calls the world to a profound moral reflection:
If we already know what needs to be done to tackle the climate crisis, why are we not doing it?
The GES seeks to foster a global dialogue that transcends politics and economics, engaging social, cultural, spiritual, and scientific communities in six intercontinental gatherings ahead of COP30. Each dialogue contributes to a collective “ethical stocktake” — a reminder that moral courage, empathy, and integrity are essential to the climate transition.
